The median is the typical posted hourly rate

On the September 26, 2026 at 10:15 UTC shift board, 379 markets for RN, LPN, and CNA clear a $10/hr floor. GNA, LNA, and STNA are counted with CNA. LVN is counted with LPN. Together they hold 4,455 open slots across 3,145 distinct shifts. 194 of those markets post one hourly rate: the low and the high are the same number. They hold 1,032 open slots (23.2% of the 4,455). A one-rate market has no inside of a range, so it stays off the quarter table. The one-posted-rate guide covers that split.

The other 185 markets post a range. They hold 3,423 open slots (76.8%) across 2,359 distinct shifts. For each of those markets this page measures where the median sits between the floor and the high. Zero means the median equals the floor. One means the median equals the high. The page publishes the low, the median, and the high. It does not name a workplace.

18 other markets (CMA, CMT, NA, RMA, S-RN) hold 59 open slots and stay off the tables below. They are not part of the RN, LPN, and CNA total.

97 ranged markets have a median equal to the floor. Those markets hold 2,190 open slots (64.0% of ranged-market slots). 43 ranged markets have a median equal to the high, and they hold 527 open slots (15.4%). The first quarter of the range, from the floor up to a quarter of the way to the high, holds 2,704 open slots (79.0%) across 108 markets. That is both the most common quarter and the quarter with the most open slots. Every market in the fourth quarter has its median on the posted high.

The median position is on the floor for RN, 12.6% of the way from the floor to the high for LPN, and on the floor for CNA. That position is the middle of the market-level positions for that license. When the count is even, it is the average of the two middle positions. The posted-floor guide groups markets by the lowest rate. The posted-high guide reads the median against the top of the range. Pay by city is on the RN, LPN, and CNA pages.

Where the median sits, by quarter

Each ranged market falls in one quarter of its own range. The share is that quarter's open slots divided by the 3,423 open slots in ranged RN, LPN, and CNA markets. One-rate markets are not in this table.

Eight markets where the median is the floor

These are the eight ranged markets with the most open slots whose median equals the floor. Low, median, and high are hourly rates on shifts posted in that market. The high on these rows is a smaller set of shifts, not the typical posted rate.

The same split, by license

GNA, LNA, and STNA are in the CNA row. LVN is in the LPN row. The position is the middle market-level position for that license among ranged markets only. A median on the floor means the typical posted rate in that market is the lowest rate on the board.

How to read the typical rate

Common questions

Does the median mean every shift pays that rate?

No. The median is the middle hourly rate posted for that city and license on this snapshot. The low and the high on the same row are the bottom and the top. A shift in the app shows its own hourly rate before you claim it.

Why is the posted high often not the typical rate?

97 of 185 ranged markets have a median equal to the floor, and those markets hold 2,190 of 3,423 open slots (64.0%). 43 ranged markets have a median equal to the high (527 open slots, 15.4%). The RN and CNA median positions are on the floor. The LPN median position is 12.6% of the way from the floor to the high.

How do I see the rate on a shift?

Download the AllShifts app (iPhone / Android), add your license and credentials, and the app shows the shifts your file qualifies for, with the hourly rate on the shift before you claim it. Pay is W-2. The W-2 vs 1099 guide covers why that status matters.
