The gap is the high minus the floor

On the shift board from September 26, 2026 at 10:15 UTC, 379 markets for RN, LPN, and CNA clear a $10/hr floor. GNA, LNA, and STNA are counted with CNA. LVN is counted with LPN. Together they hold 4,455 open slots across 3,145 distinct shifts. The gap on a market is the highest posted hourly rate minus the lowest posted hourly rate. A gap of $0.00 means the market posts one rate. A wider gap means the floor and the high are farther apart. It does not mean the typical posted rate is the high.

194 markets post one hourly rate and hold 1,032 open slots (23.2%). That is the most common shape: more markets than any ranged band. Those markets have no width to measure, so the median-position question does not apply. The one-posted-rate guide covers that split. The other 185 markets post a range and hold 3,423 open slots (76.8%).

18 other markets (CMA, CMT, NA, RMA, S-RN) hold 59 open slots and stay off the tables below. They are not part of the RN, LPN, and CNA total.

The $1.00 to under $2.00 band is 124 markets and 1,930 open slots (43.3% of all open slots on this page, and 56.4% of the slots in ranged markets). That is both the most common ranged width and the band with the most open slots, including the one-rate band. No ranged market is narrower than $1.00. 6 markets are exactly $1.00 wide, and every other ranged market is wider than that. A gap of $10.00 or more is 21 markets and 846 open slots (19.0%).

The median gap among ranged markets is $3.68 for RN, $1.43 for LPN, and $1.39 for CNA. The median is the middle posted gap for that license. When the count is even, it is the average of the two middle posted gaps. The RN median gap is in the $2.00 to under $5.00 band. The LPN and CNA median gaps are in the $1.00 to under $2.00 band. CNA holds 1,276 of the 1,930 open slots in that leading band (66.1%). The typical-rate guide asks where the median sits inside a range. The posted-floor guide groups markets by the lowest rate. Pay by city is on the RN, LPN, and CNA pages.

Posted gap, by width

Each market falls in one band. The share is that band's open slots divided by the 4,455 RN, LPN, and CNA slots on this page. One posted rate is its own band. On this snapshot the most common ranged width and the band with the most open slots are the same.

Eight markets in the $1.00 to under $2.00 band

These are the eight markets in that band with the most open slots. The gap is the high minus the floor. Low, median, and high are hourly rates on shifts posted in that market. A gap under $2.00 can still sit on a long list of shifts.

Eight markets with a gap of $10.00 or more

These are the eight markets with a gap of $10.00 or more and the most open slots. This list is sorted by open slots, not by the size of the gap. A wide gap means the floor and the high are far apart. Read the median on the same row before treating the high as the typical rate.

The same split, by license

GNA, LNA, and STNA are in the CNA row. LVN is in the LPN row. The median gap uses ranged markets only. One-rate markets stay in the one-rate column and out of that median.

How to read the gap

Common questions

Does a wider gap mean the typical shift pays more?

No. The gap is the highest posted hourly rate minus the lowest. The median on the same row is the middle posted rate. A market can have a wide gap and a median that sits on the floor. A shift in the app shows its own hourly rate before you claim it.

Why is every ranged gap at least $1.00?

On this snapshot, no ranged market is narrower than $1.00. 6 markets have a gap of exactly $1.00, and the other 179 ranged markets are wider. The most common ranged width is $1.00 to under $2.00 (124 markets, 1,930 open slots). The RN median gap is $3.68. The LPN median gap is $1.43. The CNA median gap is $1.39.

How do I see the rate on a shift?

Download the AllShifts app (iPhone / Android), add your license and credentials, and the app shows the shifts your file qualifies for, with the hourly rate on the shift before you claim it. Pay is W-2. The W-2 vs 1099 guide covers why that status matters.
